![]() With a client I’m working for we use Zoom, and with my mentees I use Pop (formally Screen). During COVID my Dungeons & Dragons sessions have moved online, and our group uses Google Meet. I almost never ever use FaceTime - maybe once or twice a year with my mom, and that’s literally it. Let’s go over the major features that were announced today. Not only am I simply a bit tired of Apple and their predatory practices, but the features announced today are too often not available in the Netherlands, or they’re just not features I see myself using.Īs a quick side node, an incomplete list of things that are not available over here: Apple News, Fitness+, Apple Card, Siri on Apple TV (even when everything is set to English), the new improved Apple Maps, cycling directions in Apple Maps, sharing Health info with your doctor, ID in Wallet, HomePod, Apple Watch cellular (they don’t even sell the stainless steel models here because of it) To be honest, I was a bit disappointed this year. If you ask me, I think yearly releases are overkill and really not necessary I’d rather have Apple split off features like Weather, Maps, Notes and more into separately updated apps, and have less frequent and bigger OS updates where there is less focus on Apple’s apps, since they wouldn’t be part of the OS anymore. The long-awaited feature that lets users wirelessly control an iPad or even another Mac using the keyboard and mouse of their main computer is still unavailable in macOS 12.1 beta. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for Universal Control. It’s also enabled in macOS 12.1 beta, so you can now build SharePlay experiences across Apple platforms using the GroupActivities entitlement, without the need for the SharePlay Development Profile. ![]() You can submit your apps that support SharePlay today. SharePlay is now available in iOS 15.1, iPadOS 15.1, and tvOS 15.1, giving people the ability to share synchronized experiences right inside their FaceTime calls. In a note to developers, Apple says that SharePlay is now re-enabled in macOS 12.1 beta, so that they can update their apps with support for the new feature. Thankfully the feature is now back for iPhone and iPad users with iOS 15.1, and soon Mac users will be able to use SharePlay as well. For some unknown reason, SharePlay was removed from iOS 15 and macOS 12 after a few betas. ![]() This feature lets users share songs, videos, or even their screens during a FaceTime call. SharePlay was announced at WWDC 2021 in June as part of the new iOS 15 and macOS Monterey features. However, the long-awaited Universal Control feature remains unavailable.
